The 2nd Summer Camp for Outstanding Mainland University Students 2024

To promote diverse exchanges with research talents, we now invite everyone to participate in “The 2nd Summer Camp for Outstanding Mainland University Students 2024,” organized by the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) of the University of Macau (UM)!

In July 2018, the University of Macau (UM) received the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the establishment of the nation’s first state key laboratory in the Internet of Things for smart city. The laboratory aims to provide for the needs of the country with the expertise of Macao and develop itself into a world-class laboratory with local characteristics. By solving key scientific and technical issues of the Internet of Things for smart city, the laboratory will put forward common theories, algorithms and systems that are of fundamental importance, and develop exemplary applications for smart city.

The laboratory has established research groups in five areas: intelligent sensing and network communication, urban big data and intelligent technology, smart energy, intelligent transportation, and urban public safety and disaster prevention. The activities will be led by professors in relevant fields and will include campus tours, lectures by renowned professors, discussions between students and faculty, and interactions between new and current students. This will allow students to experience firsthand the international environment and English learning culture at the University of Macau!

Summer Camp Period: July 15, 2024, to July 18, 2024 (4 Days)

*The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City of the University of Macau reserves the right to make the final decision and interpretation.

Requirements:

  • Students who are interested in enrolling in the 2025/2026 Master’s or PhD programmes of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau (Students from internationally renowned universities and “Double First-Class” universities will be prioritized);
  • Majors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation, Network Communications, Internet of Things, Transportation, Civil Engineering, Environment Engineering, Ocean related, etc.;
  • Academic average score of 80 or above, or ranking in the top 30% of the class, or GPA ≥ 3.4 (on a 4-point scale);</li

Subsidised items (provided by the University of Macau):

  • Accommodation for staying in the University of Macau dormitory during the summer camp, twin room will be provided
  • Lunch on 16th and 17th July
  • Round trip transportation1

1 Only documents and invoices that meet the requirements can be reimbursed. The upper limit of reimbursement is: MOP 500 within Guangdong Province and MOP 2,500 outside Guangdong Province. Please see the reimbursement guidelines for specific requirements and procedures.

Self-funded items:

  • Relevant fees and arrangements for arriving in Macau early and/or delaying return due to transportation (including flight) issues
  • Costs related to valid travel documents, visa fees2, and other relevant expenses for entering and leaving Macau (For details, please refer to the requirements of the Macao Immigration Department)
  • All personal expenses during free activities
  • Travel insurance2 required to enter Macau, valid travel insurance has been purchased before joining the camp

2 To ensure enrollment, selected students must upload a.Valid Macau visas or receipt for visa application and b. provide proof of travel insurance to confirm their participation. Otherwise, it will be considered as giving up, and the vacant quota may be allocated for supplementary selection.
