State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City visit “Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge” Administration

On July 18, 2019, Song Yonghua, President of the University of Macau and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things (University of Macau), led a delegation to visit the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Authority. Representatives attending the meeting included Li Bin, Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation, Director Zheng Shunchao of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority, Chief Engineer Su Quanke, Deputy Director Jia Jinglong, Deputy Director Huang Yongxing, Administrative Director Wei Dongqing, Deputy Director of the General Engineering Office Gao Wenbo, Professor Jia Weijia, Associate Professor Zhou Wanhuan, Associate Professor Ma Shaodan, Associate Professor Hou Fen, etc. from the University of Macau. Representatives from both parties had in-depth exchanges and discussed the work and experience in the construction, operation and management of the main project of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, as well as the challenges faced by the intelligent operation and maintenance of major transportation infrastructure in the Greater Bay Area. The two parties exchanged views on important issues such as regional scientific research cooperation, new Internet of Things applications in smart cities, and scientific and educational cooperation among universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

During the visit, Zheng Shunchao, director of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority, introduced that the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the first major transportation infrastructure jointly constructed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao under the framework of “one country, two systems”. The basic structure of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority is responsible for the construction, operation, management and maintenance of the main project of the bridge. During the construction phase of major cross-sea transportation projects in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, it has accumulated rich experience in project construction and scientific research cooperation among the three places. This year, it will jointly build the first “Engineering Technology R&D Center” in Guangdong Province with the University of Macau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the opening ceremony is expected to be held in August. It is hoped that regional cooperation will be further strengthened in the future operation, maintenance and management of the bridge, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be well managed. Director Li Bin of the Science and Technology Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation affirmed the work of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority. Guangdong Province attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation cooperation and industry-university-research application development between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and hopes that the University of Macau and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority will give full play to their respective roles. advantages and create a model for regional cooperation. President Song Yonghua introduced the development history and future development strategies of the University of Macau. The National Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things is the first national key laboratory in the field of smart city Internet of Things in the country, reflecting the Ministry of Science and Technology’s recognition and expectations of the scientific research strength of the University of Macau. The University of Macau and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority have complementary advantages. They will further promote exchanges and cooperation in the future, give full play to the scientific research advantages of the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority’s rich engineering and scientific research cooperation experience, and explore industry-university-research cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
