On July 18, 2019, Song Yonghua, President of the University of Macau and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things (University of Macau), led a delegation to visit the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Authority. The two parties exchanged views on important issues such as regional scientific research cooperation, new Internet of Things applications in smart cities, and scientific and educational cooperation among universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

During the visit, Zheng Shunchao, director of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority, introduced that the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the first major transportation infrastructure jointly constructed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao under the framework of “one country, two systems”. The basic structure of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority is responsible for the construction, operation, management and maintenance of the main project of the bridge. During the construction phase of major cross-sea transportation projects in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, it has accumulated rich experience in project construction and scientific research cooperation among the three places. This year, it will jointly build the first “Engineering Technology R&D Center” in Guangdong Province with the University of Macau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the opening ceremony is expected to be held in August. It is hoped that regional cooperation will be further strengthened in the future operation, maintenance and management of the bridge, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be well managed.
