The University of Macau (UM) and the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have jointly established the Joint Laboratory of Digital and Intelligent Energy Systems. The aim is to drive innovation in low-carbon energy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond.
The plaque unveiling ceremony for the joint laboratory took place at the University of Macau Advanced Research Institute in Hengqin. The event was moderated by Yonghua Song, rector of UM and director of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, and Lv Jiancheng, director-general of GIEC. Song and Lv also signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Song said that the joint laboratory will leverage UM’s strengths in smart grids, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis, as well as GIEC’s expertise in energy development strategy and carbon asset management. Further collaboration will be conducted through joint participation in national and provincial-level research projects and academic forums, as well as through the sharing of data and laboratory facilities, thereby accelerating the commercialisation of research outcomes in the Greater Bay Area.
