Postgraduates in the University of Macau (UM) State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) Smart Energy Group won the Outstanding Award of the 8th Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition.

The team consists of master students Lunshu Chen (team leader), Kexin Wamg, Xinxin Cheng, Jiangge Zhu, Zhaoxi Liu with Research Assistant Professor Hongxun Hui as the advisor. The team’s project, “Low-Carbon Intelligent Management System”, aims to establish data and control channels between electricity collection terminals, home appliances control, virtual power plant operation platforms, power grid dispatch systems, and transaction systems in order to improve the flexibility of the new power system and promote the large-scale consumption of renewable energy.

The One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition was launched in 2011 by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In recent years, regional competitions have been held in Hong Kong, Macao, Foshan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, and the Yangtze River Delta. This is the eighth time that UM has hosted the Macao regional competition. After intense competition, 6 teams entered the final of this competition among 62 teams.

The SKL-IOTSC Smart Energy Group focuses on the challenges and opportunities brought by clean energy, controllable loads, energy coupling, and cyber-physical system, carries out cutting-edge theoretical and technical research based on the Internet of Things, and promotes the development of clean, low-carbon, high-efficient and safe smart energy systems.
