The State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things of the University of Macau held its 2019 Annual Academic Conference at the Research Building of the University of Macau. All teachers and students in the laboratory introduced the scientific research projects and research contents of each research team in the laboratory through 18 keynote speeches from the professional perspective of their respective fields, and conducted in-depth explanations and impromptu discussions on relevant research topics.
The annual meeting was chaired by Professor Jia Weijia, deputy director of the laboratory. Song Yonghua, UM president and director of the laboratory, Zheng Guanwei, member of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund, and Zhou Peng, deputy director of the Economic Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao, delivered speeches respectively. They expressed their views on the laboratory’s 2019 academic year. I would like to express my congratulations on the successful convening of the meeting, and also express my sincere welcome to the participating scholars, professors and researchers in the laboratory. I hope that all experts will use their fruitful scientific research results to contribute to the development of Macau science and technology and the construction of smart cities.
Song Yonghua introduced the laboratory’s main results, development direction and talent training plan in 2019, reflecting the fundamental principles of UM and the laboratory’s construction of “focusing on key points, leveraging characteristics, building peaks and strengthening cooperation.” Zheng Guanwei, a member of the Macau Science and Technology Development Fund, proposed Zhou Peng hopes that the laboratory will strengthen the research of basic disciplines and the construction of innovation platforms, integrate the advantages of scientific research and development and industrial innovation, and promote the effective flow of scientific and technological element resources in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and hope that the laboratory will promote scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship, and embrace modern times. Technology, realize the construction of Internet+ smart cities, and promote comprehensive cooperation among higher education, science and technology and social industries.
Promoting exchanges and mutual learning between different smart city research labs through academic exchanges and collisions is the original intention of the laboratory to hold regular academic annual meetings. The laboratory hopes to take this annual meeting as an opportunity to further deepen and implement cooperation in cross-disciplinary research in basic disciplines, position scientific research accurately, form a stable scientific research team and cooperation mechanism, create more outstanding scientific research results, and serve Macao and other major universities.
