
The 3rd SKL-IOTSC Summer Camp for Outstanding University Students Organized by the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau) Now Accepting Applications!
As the nation’s first state key laboratory dedicated to the field of the Internet of Things for smart cities. SKL-IoTSC integrates Macao’s distinctive characteristics with global perspectives to tackle critical scientific and technical challenges in the realm of the Internet of Things (IoT) for smart cities. Our research drives cutting-edge advancements across five key areas: Intelligent Sensing and Network Communication, Urban Big Data and Intelligent Technology, Smart Energy, Intelligent Transportation, and Urban Safety and Disaster Prevention.
Through this Summer Camp, participants will engage in diverse activities—including academic lectures, lab tours, equipment demonstrations, and cultural explorations of Macao—gaining deeper insight into the State Key Laboratory’s research focus and the University of Macau’s (UM) educational philosophy while building an academic exchange platform that bridges theoretical learning with practical experience.

Requirements:
- Bachelor and Master who are interested in enrolling in the 2026/2027 Master’s or PhD programmes of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau (Students from internationally renowned universities and “Double First-Class” universities will be prioritized);
- Majors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation, Network Communications, Internet of Things, Transportation, Civil Engineering, Environment Engineering, Ocean related will be prioritized;
- Academic average score of 80 or above, or ranking in the top 25% of the class, or GPA ≥ 3.4 (on a 4-point scale) will be prioritized;

Registration Notice:
- Apart from self-funded items, this activity will not charge any additional fees. It is not recruiting participants through any agencies/intermediaries. Students are advised to be cautious of scams;
- This activity only accepts applications submitted through the official electronic registration system. Applications submitted through other means will not be considered;
- If a student submits multiple applications, only the latest version will be considered;
- The laboratory will only accept the content submitted at the time of application. No supplementary submissions or modifications will be accepted. Students are advised to upload their content carefully;
- The laboratory will announce the admission results on the official website and will also notify selected and waitlisted students via email. Please check your inbox regularly and ensure it is functioning properly;
- If any important information is missed due to incorrect information provided or an invalid personal email address, the student will be solely responsible;
- Upon receiving the admission notice, students must upload valid proof of a. A valid visa for entering Macau or a visa application receipt and
b. Relevant travel insurance documents for Macau before the deadline to confirm participation. Failure to do so will be regarded as forfeiting their spot; - Once a student confirms participation, they may not withdraw from the program without a valid and sufficient reason. Any unjustified withdrawal will be recorded and may negatively impact future applications to the University of Macau’s programs or other exchange activities.

Q1:What are the eligibility criteria for the Summer Program?
The Summer Camp is open to current undergraduate and graduate students from higher education institutions. Applicants from all Greater China regions and international students are eligible to participate. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding academic performance and be enrolled in relevant disciplines such as Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mathematics, and Ocean Science and Technology. We welcome undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in enrolling in the 2026/2027 Master’s or Doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau.
Q2:How do I submit an application? When is the application deadline?
Applicants must complete the online registration by May 12, 2025 (the specific deadline is subject to the official website announcement) through one of the following methods: click the registration link on the official website or scan the QR code on the event poster, then fill in the required information and upload necessary documents (including student ID, academic transcripts, and resume/CV, etc.).
Q3:When will the admission results of the summer camp be announced?
The admission results for the Summer Camp will be announced on the website of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau) between May 30 and June 3, 2025, listing the application numbers of selected candidates. Selected students will receive a confirmation email containing a link, through which they must upload either a valid Macau entry visa (or visa application receipt) and provide proof of travel insurance for Macau by June 20 to confirm their participation. Failure to complete these requirements by the deadline will be considered as forfeiture of participation.
Q4:Is there a fee for the summer camp?
Participation in this Summer Camp is free of charge (no registration fee required). The laboratory will provide subsidies (Subject to terms and conditions) covering dormitory accommodation at the University of Macau (Twin room) during the program period, partial meal allowances, and round-trip transportation costs to Macau (with reimbursement limits; detailed guidelines will be provided upon admission). Participants are responsible for all expenses related to early arrival or extended stays due to travel arrangements, all costs incurred during free time activities, the fees for obtaining valid travel documents and visas required for Macau entry, as well as the mandatory travel insurance for entering Macau.
Q5:Is it possible to arrive early or leave late?
The Summer Camp only subsidizes round-trip transportation costs to Macau within specified dates. Any travel expenses incurred outside this approved period must be covered by the participant at their own expense.
Q6:After submitting the applications, can students modify the submitted content?
Due to limited resources, IOTSC only accepts content submitted at the time and does not accept supplementary submissions or any modifications. Students are advised to upload content with caution.
Q7:After the selected students confirm their participation in the summer camp, can they withdraw?
Due to limited quota, if participants fail to provide proper and sufficient proof after confirmation, it will be recorded and will affect students’ future applications at the University of Macau or other exchange activities.
Q8:Is it possible to request a change to the assigned group after admission?
Group changes are not permitted.
