The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart Cities (SKL-IOTSC) of the University of Macau (UM) held a two-day strategic planning meeting on 30 June and 1 July in Zhuhai to explore the future direction of the laboratory and formulate corresponding development strategies.
Around 30 faculty members participated in the meeting including Prof. Xu Chengzhong, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Prof. Ma Shaodan, Associate Director of the SKL-IOTSC. Prof. Ma chaired the meeting. Topics such as research direction optimization, competitiveness analysis, talent introduction and cultivation, laboratory expansion, interdisciplinary focus were discussed in depth.
During the meeting, Prof. Ma appreciated the support and efforts and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the constructive suggestions and innovative ideas from all faculty members. She stressed that the research work of the lab should keep highly aligned with the strategies and needs of the country and emerging industries, give full play to its strengths and characteristics, make a good preparation for both “hardware” and “software”, enhance the supporting policies for young staffs, and make diversified measures for the introduction of talents.
During their stay in Zhuhai, the faculty delegation also visited cutting-edge technology institutions, including Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. and its State Key Laboratory, the Southern Marine of Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), and Zhuhai Yunzhou Intelligent Technology Co. Ltd. to gain a better understanding of industry and cutting-edge technology development. These visits not only stimulated innovative thinking but also benefited scientific research and teaching. The cutting-edge technologies were also integrated into the development strategy of the laboratory.
