In 2020, the UM and the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) established the joint lab through which both parties aim to combine their strengths in marine environment and ocean engineering to promote mutual development in the fields of oceanology such as costal environment and ecology, marine geology, the dynamics of the multiple spheres of the ocean, regulation of regional marine environment, natural disaster prevention in cities, and ocean engineering. The collaboration is expected to promote the training of researchers, exchange of knowledge, commercialisation of research results, and the competitiveness of hi-tech industries.
