The State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things of the University of Macau, in collaboration with the IEEE Industrial Applications Society Student Branch Chapter at UM, organized the 7th Student Conference on Electric Machines and Systems to promote academic exchange in the field of electrical and power systems and to provide learning and collaboration opportunities for participants.

The conference was supported by Nanjing RTUNIT Co., Ltd. and UMTEC Ltd. This year, 111 papers were submitted from around the world, and after a rigorous peer review process, 91 were accepted. Graduate students from 34 universities in 9 countries and regions participated and presented their research findings. Ultimately, 5 Best Paper Awards, 5 Best Presentation Awards, and 5 Best Poster Awards were selected to recognize outstanding research achievements.

The Rector of the University of Macau and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things, Yonghua Song, the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things at UM, Shaodan Ma, IEEE-IAS President-elect Ayman M. El-Refaie, IEEE-PES President-elect Chi-Yung Chung, and Zhejiang University Professor Jianxin Shen delivered speeches, discussing the heritage and original intention of organizing past conferences. The student chair of the conference, Zhenwei Zhang, introduced the conference’s development history.

The conference featured keynote speeches, invited presentations, and roundtable sessions, delivered by Johan Gyselinck, Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel; UM Professor Man Chung WONG and Assistant Professor Minghao Wang; Professor Pierluigi Siano from the University of Salerno in Italy; Assistant Professor Zhigang Li from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen); Associate Professor Yunchong Wang from Zhejiang University; Associate Researcher Yiwei Qiu from Sichuan University; Associate Professor Tao Chen and Researcher Xiangyu Zhang from Southeast University; Associate Professor Xiaohe Yan from North China Electric Power University; Associate Researcher Yulin Chen from the Hainan Institute of Zhejiang University; and Lecturer Yishuang Hu from Zhejiang University City College. The three sessions were chaired by the faculty advisor of the society at UM, the general advisor and honorary chair of the conference, Assistant Professor Hui Hongxun from UM, Assistant Professor Liu Jingrong from UM, and Professor Li Jing from Zhejiang University City College. Several experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest research in the fields of power systems, renewable energy, and more.
