DESCRIPTION:Seminar \nmmWave and VLC 5G Building Network: from the EU IoRL Project \nProf. Yue ZHANG \nAssociate Professor in Department of Engineering \nUniversity of Leicester \nDate: 19 Aug 2019 (Monday) \nTime: 3pm-4pm \nVenue: N21-1014 \nAbstract\n \nThe EU Horizon 2020 5G IoRL project aims to provide a broadband radio-light communications platform and testbed that operates in unlicensed millimeter wave and visible light spectra and provides universal broadband coverage within buildings from radio-light access points that are pervasively located within the light roses in buildings. The challenge that is addressed by the IoRL project is to design a Remote Radio Light Head (RRLH) which can integrate the mmWave transceiver platform with FPGAs\, Micro-Controllers\, DSPs and RF/IF modules and visible light communication platform. Some results of the project have been published in IEEE Transactions. \n Biography  \nDr. Yue Zhang(SMIEEE\,MIET) Associate Professor in Department of Engineering\, University of Leicester\, obtained his B.E and M.E degree in 2001 and 2004 respectively at Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications\, China. In 2008 he received his PhD degree in Brunel University\, UK\, where he also worked as a Research Engineer for the EU FP6 project- PLUTO. From 2008\, he was a Signal Processing Design Engineer in Microwave Measurement Division-Europe\, Anritsu Corp. He was responsible for the RF/IF\, digital and DSP design for the measurement instruments for various wireless and broadcasting systems. From 2010\, he joined Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Bedfordshire\, Luton\, UK as Reader in Signal Processing. He also worked as a Royal Academy of Engineering\, UK\, Industrial Fellowship with Aeroflex Ltd. He currently leads EU Horizon 2020 5GPPP project IoRL as the innovator and the most important workpackages leader. He is also one of the commitee members of 5G PPP pre-standardisation and 5G Architecture WG. His research interests are signal processing for 5G wireless and mobile systems\, radio propagation model and multimedia and wireless networks. Dr. Zhang currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting and IEEE Access.\n \nALL ARE WELCOME

DESCRIPTION:The University of Macau (UM) on 20 June (Thursday) will hold a lecture\, titled ‘Heading towards Artificial Intelligence 2.0’\, as part of the University Lecture Series. Pan Yunhe\, a renowned computer scientist and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering\, will be the keynote speaker. He will discuss the external environment that has contributed to the formation of AI 2.0. \nThe talk will start at 10:30am in Mr and Mrs Lau Chor Tak Lecture Theatre (G078)\, Anthony Lau Building (E4)\, UM. SUMMARY:[Call for Papers] IEEE PES APPEEC 2019
DESCRIPTION:The 11th IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference 2019 (APPEEC) will be held at The Parisian Macao\, Cotai Central\, Macao\, China on 1st-4th December 2019. The aim of the conference is to provide a premier platform for electrical engineers and researchers to present their works and to share experiences and ideas in power and energy engineering with experts and scholars from around the world. Started in Wuhan in 2009\, APPEEC is now an annual power engineering conference organized in Asia-Pacific Region. \nThe conference program will feature tutorial sessions\, plenary sessions\, technical and paper presentations. Distinguished speaker will be invited to deliver keynote speeches and invited talks on emerging technologies in power and energy engineering. Attendees will have the opportunity to interface with experts from all related fields. Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscript in English. Interested parties without paper are also invited to participate as attendees at the conference. SUMMARY:UM’s Master of Science in Data Science programme now open for applications
DESCRIPTION:The University of Macau (UM) will launch a Master of Science in Data Science programme in the 2019/2020 academic year to nurture a new type of professionals in big data. The new programme covers various areas\, including artificial intelligence\, marketing\, financial technology\, precision medicine\, and intelligent education\, with the aim of promoting the use of big data in different disciplines and the integration of data science and big data applications. This is the first interdisciplinary programme in big data ever launched in Macao. The programme is now open for applications until 15 April. \nBig data technology enables us to quickly collect valuable information from various kinds of data. Because of its rapid development and enormous potential for application\, there is growing demand for professionals in big data and data analysis worldwide. The new programme provides a comprehensive training for students through the following courses: Introduction to Data Science Programming\, Data Science and Data Visualisation\, Database and Data Mining Technologies\, and Tools for Machine Learning. Students will learn how to apply their knowledge and tools to interpret and process big data. The programme is expected to deepen research in big data and nurture big data professionals who can meet the needs of Macao and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area and the world with cutting-edge technologies. \nThe two-year programme is suitable for students from different academic backgrounds\, including those outside of computer engineering. A collaborative project among UM’s six faculties\, the programme provides seven specialisations for students to choose from\, including artificial intelligence applications\, big data and analytics in marketing\, financial technology\, data strategy and compliance\, precision medicine\, second language studies\, and intelligent education. Students enrolled in the programme are expected to choose one specialisation in order to learn how to apply big data effectively in the chosen field. The new programme has received the support of various sectors in Macao; it also provides an additional option for undergraduate students contemplating postgraduate studies.
