State Key Laboratory for Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau)

The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City at the University of Macau (SKL-IoTSC), established in 2018, is the nation’s first state key laboratory dedicated to the field of the Internet of Things for smart cities. This pioneering laboratory aims to address national needs by leveraging Macao’s unique expertise and aspires to become a world-class research hub with distinctive local characteristics.

SKL-IoTSC’s core mission is to tackle critical scientific and technical challenges in the realm of the Internet of Things (IoT) for smart cities. By advancing fundamental theories, algorithms, and systems, SKL-IoTSC seeks to develop exemplary smart city applications. SKL-IoTSC’s research focuses on five key areas: Intelligent Sensing and Network Communication, Urban Big Data and Intelligent Technology, Smart Energy, Intelligent Transportation, and Urban Safety and Disaster Prevention. The laboratory boasts a dedicated faculty that includes 1 foreign academician of Academia Europaea, 1 academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and 4 IEEE Fellows.

Since its inception, SKL-IoTSC has achieved significant advances in both fundamental research and innovation, and has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the Second Prize of FDCT S&T Progress Award, the First Prize of the Guangdong Provincial S&T Award, the Third National Innovation Pioneer Award, and the 14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, etc. Aims to master key technologies and significantly contribute to the development of smart cities in Macao and China, ensuring a brighter and more innovative future.
